Local game store closes two branches

Shutting down to survive

WITH the recent report of shops selling pirated DVDs are being heavily clamped down by the Municipal Board in the recent months, we are now seeing one of the many first casualties which involves the gaming community.

Electronic Game Master Trading Company or EGM (with no relations to the US based game magazine), one of the oldest game stores in the country, recently closed down two of its branches at Gadong and at the Airport Mall, the latter had only started operation over nine months ago.

The stores relied heavily on selling copied game DVDs, especially during the Original Playstation era, which then carried on until now.

One of the salespersons told G&T that with the new regulations, they had to closed down two of their branches as they were unable to keep up with the rent cost among others.

They will however will continue to support their branches at Serusop, Gadong Mall and Tanjong Bunut.

The salespersons went on to say that they are currently trying to get into the mobile phone business, as they have already stocked some phones at the Tanjong Bunut branch with many more to come.

Things are certainly changing for the retail store, with the Gadong Mall branch now share half of their store selling jeweleries and the Municipal Board clamp down, its quite sad to see what used to be an awesome place to get original video games is now a shadow of its former self.

As always you guys, don't give in to piracy and buy originals. Its better in the long run.

Thanks for the memories
