NEWS | This week the PlayStation celebrates it's 25th anniversary
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - The Playstation is a quarter century old! In its lifespan, the original PlayStation churrned out some of the most exciting and memorable titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy series, Gran Turismo to developers dabbling in early days of indie games such as Devil Dice, a game which started off as a homebrew on the Net Yaroze.
We struck a chord with the gaming community because PlayStation offered experiences beyond what anyone could ever imagine was possible with a home console. From the very start, we opened our arms to developers, providing them with the tools and technology to create beautiful, expansive worlds, and to experiment with new ideas. That approach led to the diversity of games PlayStation is known for, a true hallmark for our brand across multiple generations of hardware platforms.
The original PlayStation made its debut in Japan on December 3, 1994 and sold 100,000 units on its first day and became the first ever home console to surpass 100 million units sold globally.
While the blog post did not hint anything in particular, it would amazing to see what the heads of Sony might conjure up to mark this milestone.
During the 20th PlayStation's Anniversary, Sony released a retro-styled, original PlayStation SteelBook that if you found a golden win ticket would win yourself a 20th Anniversary Edition PS4. They also released a PS4 controller with the original PlayStation color palette and a sweet theme on the Vita.
