NEWS | Toxic Crusaders Returns After 30-Year Absence from Video Games

TOXIC Crusaders is back in the video game form after nearly 30 years of absence. 

Retroware, a video game developer that specialises in creating retro-inspired games for modern consoles and PC, is set to release an all-new, all-action beat 'em up game called Toxic Crusaders in all of its retro-pixel glory. 

The game, which is a collaboration between Retroware and Troma Entertainment, is a revival of the popular Toxic Crusaders franchise from 1991. The game features seven playable characters, each with their own unique moves and powers, and can be played by one to four players. The game is set to be released on modern consoles and PC.

Toxic Crusaders is set in the fictional town of Tromaville, which is under attack by the evil Dr. Killemoff, who plans to pollute the planet. The Toxic Crusaders, a team of hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength, must defend Tromaville from hordes of Radiation Rangers, mutated thugs, and zombie chickens. 

The game features seven disgusting levels rendered in beautiful full-colour pixel art, as well as a stunning soundtrack that will take players back to the 1990s. Players can choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, No-Zone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, and Headbanger. 

For the first time in the franchise, players can also play as Toxie's musically "gifted" girlfriend Yvonne and Toxie's mom, Mrs. Junko. The game also features surprise cameos from other Troma films, reimagined in the Saturday morning cartoon style that made the franchise so unforgettable.
