REVIEW | Sega Genesis Mini - Sega Does, Indeed.
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The Sega Genesis Mini is here and hands down one of the best mini console out there.
The system's weight is a bit on the light side but definitely a well made piece of console. Although I would have preferred the six-buttons controller, the included two controllers is way better than the original Genesis one I've been playing all these years (maybe the padding is worn out?).
The games are as you would remember playing it on the original Sega Genesis now with the added benefit of games running at 720p. Modern features such as save states function, easily resetting the game back to main menu and language settings to change to the region's box art and language further sweeten an already awesome mini console.
Overall, the selection of 40 plus games for the US region oozes excellence. Games like Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star IV, Castlevania Bloodlines, Beyond Oasis and Contra Hard Corps are legendary titles that still holds up gameplay today. The included bonus games, Darius and the extremely rare Tetris are also a welcome addtion to the lineup.
Depending on where you get the console, each system contains games specific to the region. Most notably Japan gets MUSHA and the Revenge of Shinobi while Asian region get to enjoy Shining Force II and Alien Soldier on their systems.
Fortunately, playing around the language settings lets you change the box art and the language of the game released in that region. The only caveat is that if the game isn't released in that region, the language will remain the same.
Having a compilation like this can save you a pretty penny since the game emulation is handled pretty well by the M2 team, who is known for their excellent ports of old games to new consoles.
Whether you're an old gamer like me or just starting out in retro games, the Sega Genesis Mini is a great way to experience owning the original console complete with its greatest hits.
