NEWS | BitBuilt Opens Pre-Order for Portable GameCube/Wii DIY Kit

Home console experience on the go was a far off dream for a lot of us until recently. The closest we probably got was the Sega Nomad and the TurboExpress handheld which portablised actual hardware without sacrificing performance or resorting to software emulation.

Of course, this hasn't stopped the modding community from creating their own portablised version of their favourite systems. Over the last few decades, we've seen modders take apart fourth and fifth-generation consoles and turning those into a portable powerhouse. Not happy that your PSP is just Playstation 1.5 or you PS Vita doesn't have enough PS2 legacy library? Here's a portablised PS2. Want to take your Mario Kart 64 on the road? They've built a handheld N64. Need to get arcade action from Samurai Shodown from the NEOGEO AES? Okay, they haven't gone that far yet unless you count the NEOGEO X.

More recently, a group of modder finally made a leap and made transforming a home console to a handheld more (somewhat) widely available to the masses with the release of G-Boy, a portablised Wii fitted into a 3D printed Game Boy DMG shell designed by G-Man

Shank Mod video below showcase the inner workings of the G-Boy. Though it has to be said that while it may look like a simple build, a bit of technical know-how is a must - the DIY kits don't come cheap and some of the main parts such as a trimmed-down Wii and software required to run the system will need to be sourced out by yourself.

Ready to build your own? The DIY kit is available for pre-order at bitbuilt.
