NEWS | Assault Suits Valken Declassified: Unedited Version of Super Famicom Classic Set for Western Release on Nintendo Switch
RAINMAKER Productions and M2 Co., Ltd. are teaming up to bring Assault Suits Valken Declassified to Western audiences for the first time.
This re-release of the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) mecha action classic will be an unedited and uncensored version of the original game, complete with a new English translation. The game will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on March 30, 2023, for $24.99 USD.
Assault Suits Valken Declassified takes place in a future where two governments are at war over Earth's dwindling natural resources and the territorial rights to its moon. Players will assume the role of soldier Jake Brain, piloting his classic mecha through a variety of challenging 2D run-and-gun missions as they seek to destroy the opposing government's most powerful extraterrestrial weapon, Bildvorg.
The original game was released for the Super Famicom/SNES in 1992, but the Western version was heavily edited and censored. Assault Suits Valken Declassified aims to correct this oversight by offering a faithful and uncompromised localization of the original game, along with new artwork from character designer Satoshi Urushihara and an exclusive interview with Satoshi Nakai, the previously unknown designer of the game's titular mecha.
The game will also feature a recreated and translated version of the original 80-page Assault Suits Valken Japanese guidebook, a brand-new soundtrack, and a "Retro Color" screen filter, along with regular CRT and scanlines options. In addition, players will have access to save/load states and replay record and playback functionality.
To celebrate the announcement of Assault Suits Valken Declassified, a trailer showcasing both the title's retro gameplay and brand-new content additions has been released on YouTube. The game promises to offer a unique experience to players who missed out on the original version or were disappointed by the censored Western release.
