NEWS | Touhou: New World, the Action RPG with a Bullet Hell Twist, Launching on Nintendo Switch and PC in Summer 2023
XSEED Games has announced the upcoming release of Touhou: New World, a fan-made action RPG set in the Touhou Project universe.
The game will be available digitally for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in North America and Europe in the summer of 2023, with digital versions for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to follow at a later date.
Developed by Ankake Spa, the creators of Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, Touhou: New World is set in Gensokyo, a world where both humans and supernatural spirits called youkai reside.
The game follows the story of shrine maiden Reimu and her magician friend Marisa, who must uncover the source of chaos brought on by an outsider who has breached the mystical barrier protecting Gensokyo. Players will have to dodge magical bullet barrages and battle mystical creatures to restore peace to both Gensokyo and the world beyond.
Touhou: New World features customizable action, allowing players to customize Reimu and Marisa to suit their playstyle by levelling up their skills through battle and upgrading stats like health and attack power. Players can also mix and match weapons, armour, and accessories to make the most of randomized stats or reforge equipment for the perfect combination.
Friendly Gensokyo residents can be helped by finding lost souls, investigating strange areas, and engaging in mock battles, which players will be rewarded for. The game's action-RPG combat has a bullet hell twist and enemies can unleash fountains of projectiles, but players can counter them by inflicting heavy damage with spell cards, dealing powerful blows with exorcism sticks, and slowing attacks with well-timed guards.
The launch timing for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of Touhou: New World will be disclosed at a later date.
